This edition was prepared in Montreal, Canada, where the news hasn't been particularly good in recent months. New here? Don't hesitate to send me a message to let me know what you're looking for in this newsletter. Happy reading! 〰️ 〰️ 〰️ Between climate crises, geopolitical conflicts, and inflation creeping into our plates, it's hard not to feel information fatigue. And yet, a counter-current is slowly but surely emerging: Good news movement. 💌 The counter-current that does goodIn recent years, more and more initiatives have emerged to highlight what works, what inspires, what gives hope. This isn't naiveté, but a form of cultural resilience—and perhaps even a radical act. Some see it as a deliberate stance: Hopepunk, or optimism as a clear-eyed response to a world in crisis. We're also seeing an editorial shift in some major media outlets, which are seeking to integrate more nuanced coverage, rooted in meaningful narratives. This is a way of not only reflecting reality, but also proposing solutions. It's impossible to overlook the fact that these stories often arise in the social and environmental sphere. Did you know that the hole in the ozone layer is recovering? What's changingFor those of us like me who juggle information on a daily basis—forecasters, journalists, analysts—the constant flow of news can become overwhelming. It was while reading an article in La Presse (newspaper) in which a journalist described his news cure, consisting of one day a week without news or social media, that the idea for this edition came to me. There are others that go even further: turning off the news completely. Reuters has found a sharp increase in the number of people deliberately avoiding the news, with avoidance rates doubling in Brazil and the UK over the past five years¹. Good News MediaSome of which I scan to relay weak signals in the networks I am part of. The good news often highlight initiatives that are wroth repeating and purposeful innovation. 📰GoodGoodGood website but also a printed fanzine of all the good news. 📰 Reasons to be Cheerful where I discovered a book that inspired my own book! 📰 Good News Movement (Instagram) : Short feel-good stories go viral. 📰Daily Good who changes history to inspire 📰 Le jeune engagé who does a round up of good news on his social networks every week (French only). 📰 The 'Blue Planet, Green Ideas' section of La Presse ⚜️ 📰 Ça va mieux qu'on pense: a podcast that dissects environmental issues and systematically asks guests if... Things are better than we think? ⚜️ Positive titlesEven the titles of the books I am currently reading give less dramatic flavor to the situation.
